Club Update
June 2026

Kia ora Waka whānau, what a start to the season! It's been awesome seeing so many of you out on the courts — whether you're playing, umpiring, or cheering from the sideline. Congratulations to you all on an awesome start so far, ka mau te wehi!

Here's a quick update on things that are happening across our netball community.

A great start to the season!

It's been a brilliant start and we couldn't be happier with the energy across the club. Seeing our players, whānau, and supporters out on the courts — keeping active, connecting with each other, and getting involved — is exactly what Waka is all about.

Ngā mihi nui to everyone who has shown up and made the atmosphere so special. Let's keep it going!

Important

The Waka Way — court & sideline behaviour

Court and sideline behaviour is a significant issue across our East Auckland netball community right now, and we want to make sure Waka is leading the way. We want to take a moment to remind everyone — players on the court, officials, whānau, and supporters on the sideline — that we all play a role in upholding the values of our club, both on and off the court.

We know netball is competitive and it can get frustrating — especially when calls aren't being made or games feel tight. Newer umpires are learning, just like our players are, and that's part of the game and part of our community. How we respond in those moments matters.

This isn't an issue unique to Waka — it's something clubs across our centre are navigating together. But change starts with us. Let's lead by example and make sure every person on that sideline feels welcomed and supported.

Don't forget the Waka Way. 🖤🤍❤️

Grading

Grading update

We're now heading into rolling grading — this means teams may be moved between grades over the coming weeks depending on how they perform, to make sure everyone ends up competing at the right level.

The competition round starts 1 August, and by then you'll be settled in your final grade. These next eight weeks are a great opportunity for teams to build their connections and develop their game — so stay active, train strong, and work hard. The competition rounds will be here before you know it!

Fees

Fees reminder

If your fees are not paid in full and you don't have a current arrangement in place, our treasurer will be in touch over the next week. We know times are tough, and we want to make sure finances are never a barrier to being part of Waka — please reach out to us and we'll work something out together.

If you're all paid up, thank you so much — it really does make a difference and helps keep the club going for everyone.

Stay in the loop
